Dodgers Select Charlie Barnes

The Dodgers reselected left-hander Charlie Barnes onto their major league roster. They also recalled righty reliever Seth Halvorsen for what’ll be his team debut. L.A. optioned Kyle Hurt to Triple-A Oklahoma City and designated righty Jonathan Hernández for assignment in corresponding moves.

Barnes has been on and off the roster a couple times this year. He was most recently designated for assignment a week ago when Edwin Díaz returned from injury. Barnes cleared waivers, re-signed on a minor league deal, and is back after making two more appearances with OKC. He has a 4.12 ERA across 59 Triple-A frames this season between the Cubs’ and Dodgers’ systems. Barnes has made four MLB outings, allowing seven runs over 10 innings.

While Barnes is a soft-tossing lefty who’ll slot in long relief, Halvorsen is a one-inning righty with a triple-digit fastball. He was sidelined by right shoulder inflammation when the Dodgers acquired him from the Rockies in mid-July. Halvorsen spent a couple weeks on optional assignment after being activated from injury. He’ll now get his first look in Dave Roberts’ middle relief group.

Hernández has had a couple big league stints this year, his first MLB work since 2024. He has made 15 appearances for the Dodgers, allowing 16 runs across 22 1/3 innings. Hernández cleared waivers in early July, accepted the minor league assignment, and was called back up after the trade deadline. He has worked 4 1/3 scoreless frames over three appearances since his most recent promotion. Hernández tossed two innings and 26 pitches yesterday and wouldn’t have been available tonight, so the Dodgers swapped him out. He’ll go back on waivers this week and would again have the right to test free agency if he goes unclaimed.
