I've always thought that the purpose of gifted programs was to let smart kids feel socially normal, rather than any academic benefit. This makes me very ambivalent toward them. Is it good to feel more normal than you are?

There’s perennially too little interest in what is actually driving superior results for kids in “gifted” education programs given that the different possibilities (pure selection, peer effects, actual better programming) have different implications.
